can't set bios to boot from CD rom drive

Im new at this forum posting so hope ppl will be patient with me.
I am trying to format my C drive and reinstall Windows XP home edition.
I have an Intel D850GB motherboard and have have looked at the instructions on how to boot from CD at startup but its not working ..... the comp just goes ahead into Windows XP as it does normally.
The instructions I used were as follows:
- as the comp starts I pressed F2 which entered Setup no problem.
- I went to the Boot tab and down to boot priority and pressed ENTER.
- there were 3 devices listed there as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd as follows:
1st boot dev. removable dev
2nd boot dev. hard drive
3rd boot dev. ATAPI CD-ROM
- as the instructions said on that page, I selected the ATAPI CD-ROM option and then
pressed ENTER to set it as my first boot priority and then F10 to save the changes
and exit SETUP (this seemed to work bc it asked me if i wanted to save the changes
and I made sure i selected YES)
- I had the Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM drive ready and when the comp restarted
it SHOULD have said "Press any key to boot from CD" but nothing out of the ordinary
happened .... it just started going into Windows as usual.
I should add that I have Windows 98SE installed first and the Windows XP is an upgrade ... dont know if that matters or not .......
Any help would be much appreciated .
Thanx Raen
