Norton is the pits sometimes, but I got it to say the least. I mostly run Trend Micro though on my computers. Trend Micro is a nice online scanner.

norton to me is the root of all evil ! avg passed any test thrown at it but people continue to purchase norton . why , i don`t know , it is error prone , full of false negatives , and is a pain to delete.

I have used Norton for the last 5 years and never a problem. UNTIL, I upgraded to NIS2005. Never again will I purchase another Norton/Symantec program. This newest upgrade completely took over my pc and gave me nothing but problems.

I uninstalled (another mess) and switched to AVG Free and ZoneAlarm until I decide between them and Panda Internet Security.

I have used AVG6 for the last couple years after turning from Norton's for a lighter effect on a Win98. Like pmf45 Not untill I upgraded recently to the new AVG7 did i begin to experience severe systems issues and had to completely uninstall my best dependable AV Protector i had grown to depend on.
The newest upgrade is made for many issues evident by others also who are posting their own complaints in masse at the AVG Free Forums.

I have since fallen back to AVAST! Home Edition for the time being for routine AV scans while i consider other options offered from credible resources, a few of whom are posting in this very thread.

My thanks for those other alternate suggestions:

As it stands right now only kaspersky, NOD32, panda and sophos are delivering daily updates so to me they have to be top on the list.

I'm happy to report that for what ever the reason, AVG 6 support has been extended to a new tentative date of February 15, 2005 if i read my statistics right.

As one might have guessed i took the Liberty to reinstall and catch up all the available updates so far.

I must agree Norton's, Panda etc. are on a steady pace with the very latest accurate updates, however AVG 6 is served many very well also including this user, and with this extension in time is renewed confidence in a software that is proven itself worthy many times over in offering excellent protections.

I suppose now is as good as time as any to begin evaluating and preparing to switch over to a new AV while this grace period lasts.
