My daughter has SIMS games ,, is trying to use them in XP ,, she gets a message that says ,,,

16 bit Windows Subsystem ..
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate this application

Is there anyway she can get around this?

This link will help you out on answering your question : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=324767 If you have any questions over following the instructions, just ask. We will be glad to help with them.

I was also wondering if you could tell me the system requirements of your daughters computer. Here are the system requirements :

Minimum System Requirements for The Sims 2

If you have a T&L capable video card with at least 32 MB of video RAM then you need at least:
800 MHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98 or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
If you have a non-T&L capable video card (an Intel Extreme Graphics or a Radeon 7000/VE Series) then you need at least:
2.0 GHz processor or better
256 MB RAM if Windows XP, Windows ME, Windows 98, or Windows 2000
At least 3.5 GB of hard drive space
Get the most current driver for your video card. The manufacturers usually have the video drivers on their sites for you to download. Visit the nVidia site, the ATI site or the support site for your computer's manufacturer for the latest drivers for those video cards.

Supported video cards (and the more video memory the better):

ATI RadeonTM series (7000 or better)
Radeon 7000/VE series (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
7200, 7500
8500, All-In-Wonder 8500
9000, 9200, 9500, 9600, 9700, 9800
X300, X600, X800

Nvidia® QuadroTM series
Quadro, Quadro2, Quadro4

Nvidia® Geforce series (GeForce2 and better)
GeForce2
GeForce3, 3 Ti
GeForce4, 4Ti, MX 420, 440
GeForce FX 5200, 5600, 5700, 5800, 5900, 5950
GeForce 6600, 6800

Intel® Extreme Graphics (non-T&L; requires 2.0 GHz processor)
82845, 82865, 82915

Let me tell you what I do know ,, and you can help me find out what I dont know!

This is what I found about her computer

Averatec 3000 series - laptop
Mobile Intel ® Celeron ™
CPU 1333 MHz
1.33 GHz
224 MB of ram

now this is what I don't know ,, and my lack of knowledge is really going to show here! The video card ,, is that something she purchases as an addition to what is in her computer??

Firsts thing is that she needs more RAM in her computer iuf she only has 224. That is one thing she will need to run it.

The video card does come with the computer, you can find that out by doing this :

- Go to Start
- Click on "Run"
- Type in "dxdiag" (without the quotes)
- Go to the tab called "Display"
- Right next to "Name" should be what your video card is called...

or (Another way to get your video cards info)

-Right click "My Computer"
-Click on "Properties"
- Click on the "Hardware" tab
- Then Click on the "Device Manager" button
- Finally click the "+" sign next to "Display adapters and it will show your video card there too.

P.S. - You may be wondering why it says that Raistlin has edited your post.... Well I accidently pressed "Edit" to reply to your message then hitting "Post Reply". I'm sorry about that! :hide:

lol .. you can come out from under your chair now!! Probably wouldn't even have noticed it said, edited, had you not told me!! lol

Ok ,,, I found the video card info ( thanks! learn something new everyday! ) ,,, it said ,, SiS 630/730, whatever that means! ,, feel real puter illiterate when it comes to this!
And as far as the RAM ,, she needs to purchase more memory and have it installed, yes??

You know what?? This is a tad of this topic but ,, there are so many things like this, that I don't know and/or understand, and wish I did. I mean ,, since my first stop here due to a virus ,, I have learned soooo much about my puter, but I still know so little ,, just like this stuff ,, have no clue ,, any suggestions where I can go to learn these things .. would love to someday know and understand my puter from front to back

I'm sorry I can't tell you much about your video card. Yes, you are correct about the RAM part, she does need more of that. You may also just want to get RAM to speed up your computer. It is nice to have for that purpose, if you have no other reason at all to buy it.

You learn things by screwing up is what it all boils down too. I have learned so much from my own mistakes. I used to only have one computer for my family, and to say the least I screwed my computer up quiet a bit. It also helps to have someone you know that is very knowledgable about computers! Whenever you encounter a problem research it on your own, then post it in a forums if you can't find the out whats wrong. Trust me I have learned about everything the hard way! From a malfunctioning video card to spyware.

Another way to learn more things about your computer is get on a newsletter list that sends out upcoming information over new things over computers. Also books and magazines help too...
