Why does my puter do this when I play games?

Whenever I play a game ,, after I have been playing for awhile ,, something in my main component turns on - sounds like a fan running? Sometimes it will shut off when I stop playing the game. Sometimes it will shut off if I close down all my windows that I have open. Is this something to worry about?? Oh ,, I should add ,, I don't remember it ever doing this until just recently

Just something else I want to add to my question. I was in a forum this morning .. playing a game when this happened on my puter. This time when I shut down the game ,, whatever kicks on and is running, stayed running. So I decided I would restart my puter .. it wouldn't let me at first ,, like it was loading something maybe? Then finally a little window popped up that said something to the effect, that if you choose to end this program now, you might lose some things. I clicked on end now because I didnt know what it was saving in the first place. Maybe I am on the wrong board? Maybe I have a bug?

Ope task manager next time Der and see what is running. That should lend a hint.

The actual window that I wanted an image of would have been the processes tab.
