I got my PC in October 2004 and it came with an ATI Radeon 9800 pro tv out + DVI, Graphics card. However, this seemed incompatible with my Hauppauge Win TV card (which I already had in my old comp and wanted to transfer to this new one) so my hubby went and bought me an Nvidia ge force fx 5200 card with personal cinema and all that kind of stuff with it. Hauppauge card is now back in 'old' pc (with an FX 5200 graphics card also) My question is, which Graphics card is better for my spec(posted below): the 9800 or the FX 5200? The reason I ask is because when I play DVD's, there is some 'lag' occasionally where the DVD sort of pauses a bit. I dont really play games but would like to watch the occasional DVD, and put digital camera footage on to DVD etc.
Does the software you play DVD's with make a difference also? I have a choice between Power DVD 3.0 (old), Win DVD (old too I think) Nero 6 and the software that came with the card - Personal Cinema. Sorry to be so long winded but before I say anything 'indoors' about wanting to nab the ATI 9800 back (it is currently being used by my youngest son on the oldest PC) I thought Id see what someone here said. BTW what I really really want is the nvidia 6800 GT/Ultra but I suppose that is a bit unnecessary for my modest requirements? ? Can you recommend a middle end card ie one that doesnt cost the earth 'but does the job'? Thanks in advance..... Spec: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device (250.99 GB) -- drive 1 Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device (37.01 GB) -- drive 0 Raptor Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (build 2600) 1 GB RAM (2x512 MB) PC3200 DDR 400 Mhz Board: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. A8V Deluxe GB LAN/1394/SATA/AUDIO (939 PIN) NVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Philips 170S4 [Monitor] 360W PSU BIOS: American Megatrends

Heck girl throw modest straight out the window when i look at the system specs. that system must rock something fierce.
Before going out amd spendig more I would look at direct x and video drivers. get the latest for all before going any further and see if that changes anything. p.s-- I use a much lower grade nvidia card on an athalon 2800 and no lag at all with power dvd. |

Thanks for that Charlie
Sorry for the late reply but I cant have had e-mail notification enabled for posts ..... Do you mean I should stick with the FX5200 and update the drivers? I thought I had the latest ones but I will check that, also I think I have direct x 9.0 but I will check that also. Thanks for the input. What do you think about my ATI / Win TV PVR 350 problem? Im sure it must be solveable but I cant do it
