Curious Event
I turned the computer on this morning, and knew it was on cause my desktop screen was up. About 40 mins later, my daughter's friend was on the other computer and asked my daughter how come she couldn't connect to the Internet. My daughter said because this computer wasn't on. They're networked. I said yes it is and came in to look.
I came in to discover a black screen. The tower was on...I tried to do control-alt-delete, which did nothing. I tried pushing the power button on the tower but it wouldn't turn off. Had to turn off the power strip. That shut everything down. The other weird thing is, when I turned the strip back on, and pushed the button on the tower, it started up normally, no blue screen. I certainly didn't power down the right way and I should have gotten that blue screen. Have you ever heard of this before? Carol |

I have yes coincidentally. My experience was with the power options. it appeared that I had the hard drive to shut off after a set amount of strill time. It can also happen after enabling hibernation..
What operating system is it ? |

This is an XP system.
What is "enabling hibernation"? Carol |

Its a sleep mode that is a part of windows..First you can check in start/ control panel / power options / and once there make sure the only option that is enabled to shut down is the monitor. then click the hibernate tab and uncheck the option there if it is checked.

We haven't ever had this happen before and nothing has been touched on the control panel settings. Wouldn't I want it to save all my settings and all before shutting down?

Under Power Schemes, all 4 settings are set on "Never" shutdown. Under Hibernate, it is checked. So you say I should uncheck the Hibernate button?

Yes, then try rebooting and see if it happens again.

This was the very first time this has ever happened. Are you sure I should UNcheck Enable Hibernation? Perhaps if it happens again at some point, I could do it then?
