The single beep code is a sign that all is ok. Look at the manual to see if the clear cmos jumper isnt in the clear position as well as try a different video card in it.

well I did a clear CMOS as indicated in the book, I also checked the ram its ok the only problem is I dont have a another graphics card to check it my new one is a pci express and the old one is agp. the only thing I noticed is that Asus needs a 1.5v graphic card and I dont know what my old one is, its a radeon 8500 couldnt find the specs for it.

First look to make certain the mobo isnt grounding on the case, reseat the ram and go with only one stick. Alternate for more than one. Reseat all ide cables.

Also Shelly, did you apply the thermal paste properly ? If not then redo that as well because that mobo has a heat or power setting that will not let it boot if the heat is too high.

I cannot find an image to help you but I can say that there will be a cmos jumper close to the cmos battery. With the pc off switch the jumper to off then attempt to power up the system. Then shut it down, switch the jumper back to where it was and retry starting it.

The power light comes on that is located by the ram sticks is that right ?

Now if there are any other modules attached to the board like a sound card, usb card etc then remove them all and just try the ram and garphics card that you know do work. If still nothing then its either the cpu or mobo that is bad.
