Dvd-r
I'm new to the DVD burning world, by choice, never thought i would need one. Now as I progress in to my own 'computer fix-it-up' world, I'm finding that burning a DVD is an awesome way for mass storage. I could get on google and look this up myself, but hey, what are friends for huh? Can someone tell me what are the best specs for a DVD-R, what medium specs and what's the least spec acceptable, I'm all about not paying a lot

I would personally suggect this NEC DVD burner from NEWEGG. The all in one optical drive does it all. Here is a site : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827152058 I will try to tell u more about DVD burners in a little while, but I must go.

Sorry, I kind of wrote a reply to your question rather quickly this afternoon because I was in my lunch break. Anyway, this is what you look for in CD and DVD ROM drives. First you will want to look at the speed of the drive. I burn DVDs constantly and I look for fastest speeds for transferring date to a DVD burner. This DVD drive will burn up to 16x which is the fastest speed a DVD drive can reach. Since it is also a CD burner it burns at 48x speed which is almost the fastest burning rate right now. Right now CD burners can reach 52x, but I have heard there is not much difference in speed wise and the 48x is quieter than the 52x.
The DVD RW part means that the DVD can write a rewritable DVD at 8x. So a DVD RW is a disc that can be wrote on once and then rewrote on it again and again, unlike a regular DVD that can only be burned once. It is the same like a CD RW disc, but you can burn up to 32x on CD RWs. This drive does it all, and it does it well! It is a great price for such a good optical drive also at newegg... Might I also add this... There are also DVD/CD R that have lightscribe on it. Lightscribe is where you stick in your CD or DVD and after it gets done burning for you it writes the name of whatever you want it to write on there for you neatly instead of you writing in a black marker the name of the disc. Here is an url of what it is all about, if you want to go that route. http://www.lightscribe.com/about/index.aspx?id=95 That is only if you want to go the way of lightscribe... I suggest not going that route if your just using he DVDs to store personal information that you dont care how messy the title is and all... Plus you have to buy the CD/DVDs seperately and I do not believe you can use the normal CD/DVDs if you decide on using lightscribe. To tell you the truth I haven't got much into it to really say a whole lot about it though. Rat |

Sorry to leave you hanging. I had to decide against it, because the tower i have doesn't have enough umphhh. But I will be watching that site or occassionaly if you get a chance email me deals. Eventually I WILL have to get one. My laptop would either need one designed for it or I'd need an external or I'd have to acquire a better tower.
