Master slave set up
I have someone's computer that is probably older than the Jester but they don't want to part with it. It's a Gateway 2000 with a Pentium MMX 200mgh in it...yes blinding speed. Anyway it's running Win95 and in order for her to continue using her AOhELL she needs to upgrade. Sad but true, geeeez that would be too bad if she couldn't use AOhELL anymore.
Current HDD is 2gigs and is divided into C and D drives. I want to add another HDD and make it Master, I can set the jumpers to Master because well I just have to follow what's on the current HDD, but what are the settings for the Slave? Both are Caviar brand HDD. Thanks. What would be so much easier if I could pick up a copy of Win98 upgrade. My two Win98 CDs say I have to use an upgrade or completely reinstall the OS, which I don't want to do because she doesn't want to loose the info on the HDD.

You want to add a new hdd and make it master ? If so then the current operating system will not boot. Were you aware of that ?

yes I want to load win98 onto it. I can't upgrade the current OS because it requires a win98 upgrade CD all I have is a full install. Do you know of some secret to keep the current files intact and do a full Win98 install? I know I'm not making a lot of sense, but it does make sense. I have to keep her current files intact and every time I try to upgrade to win98 I can't

What I would do for a customer i n my shop would be to just throw in a slave drive and store all the desired files and folders on it. Then reformat c drive and install 98 fresh. then from the slave drive copy the files/folders back onto the fresh system (C drive)..

sounds like a lotta work!! but I still then need to know the slave settings for the other hdd. It's a funky setup, the jumpers are not vertical but horizontal. I wonder where I can get a win98 upgrade cd from

the jumpers are different though, the other direction. I'm going to take out the jumper period and hook it up

help
I can't get it boot at all anymore. It booted yesterday, I don't know what the problem is today.
Later that day: Seems you have to provide some sort of power to the hdd to make it work.........
