Just because I asked!

Okay, here's the deal. I currently have a EIDE Maxtor 160 gig 8 MG hard drive.. hubby is getting ready to purchase an identical hard drive. He currently has two 80 gig hard drives. One is a EIDE and the other is a Serial ATA. He also has a 30 gig which he is planning on keeping. We are each going to get one of the 80 gigs. He is using the EIDE 80 gig now and doesn't want to have to reformat so I will be getting the Serial ATA.

My question...which one needs to be slave and which one needs to be master in this configuration? The EIDE or the SATA? And how do I go about setting all this up? Or point me in the right direction for finding the information I need. Liz

I never did that before Liz but if you are going to try then I think that the sata would have to be master cause with sata enabled in the bios, I believe it would boot first.

Okay, that's what I thought, which means a lot of work ahead for me, LOL. *I* get to reformat. Unless I can convince him to let me have the 30 gig and let me put my XP Pro on it and the Windows 2000 on the SATA. Then I could ghost the XP to the 30 gig. Liz

If I were you now I would get another sata drive for the next one then set up a raid configuration on your system...SPEED

The reason for the 160 gig is the price is dropping like a rock and we don't know how much longer they will have these around. They came out with the Maxtor 10's and these are Maxtor 9's. Once these are gone, they won't have these low prices. I got mine for $97 with shipping, it's now $92 and $1.99 for shipping. This is at www.newegg.com I know that THEIR website says one year but the maxtor web site says THREE! So we are buying a second one Liz
