Old HP won't POST
this is a very old HP Pavilion 6648C with an AMD-K6 processor. It was running windows 98 and I upgraded to Win2k and it was running fine expect drivers for the sound and NIC cards weren't working so I pulled out both and replaced them with different onces that I have drivers for and now it won't POST. There is nothing USB plugged in and I didn't make any other changes only those two pci cards. I pulled the cards, put the old ones back in and still no POST. It's like it's in sleep mode. I can't bring it around. Any suggestions besides junk the thing? It's not mine.

Ok, forget the HP Pavilion it's not gonna POST. I have a box with an aOpen AX34 system board, I loaded win2k on the hdd and everything is working (after several hours) but the CD player doesn't have sound. The sound card is working as I have sound in the sounds area and sound from the internet but when i put a CD in the media player plays but no music from the speakers. I think I have it connected to the system board in the wrong place and have been searching google for a manual for this board and I can't find anything.
I'm a software person, never had more than a course in hardware so this is becoming difficult. If I can get this working I'm going to give it to the person who's HP met an untimely demise. Thanks

As far as the HP is concerned, does it beep at you. If so, check the video card and the Ram, make sure they are seeted, better still reseat them all.
With the Aopen, did you connect the audio cable from the cdrom to the sound card/motherboard port? If you did, just double check that they are in the right spot on the sound/motherboard. Ray

Thanks Ray. I gave up on the HP, it doesn't Post (power on self test that nice little beep) and I did everything including praying over it
![]() So then I moved on to the one with the Aopen system board. I couldn't see on the board where to connect it and I had a deadline so I just left it. The pc has sound for everything but the CD, but if they plug speakers or headphones into the jack on the cd drive they can hear the cd so that worked for me. If I would have had more time, that would have been better. IN the end they decided they are going to buy a new computer anyway so all of it was in vain.
