my mothers just had a new HDD installed in her pc (the 'old' one just died a death apparently); all seems ok, but the main drive letter has set itself to F and not the usual C. The place where you can change drive letters doesnt seem to want to play ball. Is there any reason for this? How else can we change the drive letter ? Its more of an irritation than anything else, but Id be happy to put it right for her if it is at all possible
Thanks in advance

1. Log on as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.
2. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Performance and Maintenance. Note If you do not see Performance and Maintenance, go to step 3. Performance and Maintenance appears in Control Panel only if you use Category view. If you use Classic view, Performance and Maintenance does not appear. 3. Click Administrative Tools, double-click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management in the left pane. 4. Right-click the drive, the partition, the logical drive, or the volume that you want to assign a drive letter to, and then click Change Drive Letter and Paths. 5. Click Add. 6. Click Assign the following drive letter if it is not already selected, and then either accept the default drive letter or click the drive letter that you want to use. 7. Click OK. |

Thanks - Im going to try that if you can confirm something for me.....its probably a stupid question, but, when I change the F drive to being called C drive (which incidentally has been allocated to the card reader in mums printer for some reason) will all the stuff that has been installed to 'F' then realise that its actually now installed to the C drive? Or will it all have to be 'moved' or re-installed? I dont think she could cope with that lol.............

update: The reason the drive letters went awry we think is because the printer, which has a memory card reader in it, was plugged in at the time Windows was re-installed. Easy when you know lol but baffling at the time. Anyway, she's gonna have to get used to F being C or reinstall Windows again
