What we have is 2 desktops currently running Windows XP Pro SP2, one desktop running Fedore 4, and one laptop, wireless XP Pro SP2. We have three printers, 2 connected to a windows desktop and one is a print server. We tried Windows Server 2003 on the server (almost lost my mind and sanity).

All this is routed thru a 2wire router and a linksys hub, both 4 ports.

The desktop running Fedora 4 is the *server*. We have talked to our DSL provider and we can host our own business. We have 3 domains and are with a 5 static IP package.

I have NEVER worked with linux before. We decided to go with Fedora/Samba as a network server and now I need to know how to configure it as the domain controller and to put the three domains on there.

I also need help with email.

I THINK I can figure out how to get the router set so it sees port 80 but I'm not sure. I KNOW I can on one of the windows computers, LOL.

I've got it installed...and now I need to figure out how to see the other computers first.

(My husband would do this but he has and is ill and can't help as much as he use to be so I'm doing most of this now, unless I catch him in the mornings).

Once I do that, then I want to see about setting up the web sites.

I know I can access online and it's being seen as the primary domain from the router of 70.224.119.110 which is one of the 5 IP's we were given. That is our bridge IP and not to be used by any of our sites.

I need some type of control panel, and I don't know if one is built into Fedora/Samba or I need one like a cpanel or HShpere.

I've also downloaded xampp for linux just in case. I don't know SQUAT about installing anything in a linux environment.

I know this is alot but I am willing to learn and, like I said, I am still hosted at the moment so it can go as slow as I need.

Can anyone help? Liz

First thing first Liz is the fedora 4 server. review this stup and make certain you have installed correctly and have installed the proper packages outlined.

http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_fedora_core_4

That page should get you operational and is about as easy as youll find in linux..

Well, since I posted that a few things have changed.

We switched from Fedora to CentOS for the simple reason that there was someone who could help walk me thru it.

So I reinstalled the entire O/S and now I am to the point were I have the Samba server installed and can read it with my windows computer!

I managed to configur the Samba server on the Linux computer thru the Windows computer to read the Windows computer but I can't log in yet

Thanks to trying windows sbs server 2003 first, we have to reinstall windows xp on all the computers in the house. I can't see them on the network neighborhood like I am suppose to be able too. Liz

I thinkcent is better anyway due to Fedora's bleeding edge technology. There may be some real breaches that are not taken care of not to mention some software issues. If you want to try debian i have a tut on that as well.

Well, we lost contact between the two computers today. And I can't figure out why.

My IP is reading the same as the IP on the server, we've checked and double checked and triple checked and then checked again!

I can access putty from my computer but I can't access SWAT! :censored: IT'S making me GRAY! Liz
