How to setup Wireless for Ubuntu on Inspiron 2200

First thing you will need to do is browser the windows directory on the system and go to C:\windows\ drivers.
In that directory look for bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5.sys. Copy both these files and paste them on your desktop. These are the broadcom wireless adapters drivers.

Now you have to get those drivers onto your installed Ubuntu system so use either cdrom, floppy, or usb drive to accomplish this.

Now reboot into Ubuntu and create a folder in your home directory and name it bcmwl. The bcmwl drivers are to be placed in this directory so go ahead and do that.

Its time to install ndiswrapper so open a terminal window and paste:
sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper

Now I want you to download this file and as well, place it in your home directory.
http://www.users.on.net/~spohlenz/ubuntu/ndisgtk_0.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

To Install the tool:
Open a terminalk window and paste this command:
sudo dpkg -i ndisgtk_0.2-0ubuntu1_i386.deb

Now run the tool:
gksudo ndisgtk

Enter your root password
Its time to Install the wireless adapters driver so browse to the bcmwl directory and select the bcmwl5.inf.

You should get a hardware found notice back in the ndisgtk window.

Now click system / administration / networking

Set up a new wlan0 connection, choose dhcp unless you have a static ip address as well as enter any specific entries that you may or may not have setup in your router for ssid and wep encrytion.

Click activate and when that process completes, reboot the system.

If everything was done according to the fore mentioned procedures you should be online and surfing free of wires..
