There's a wag in the works at Microsoft: The company is christening the next version of its flagship operating system "Vista"--which is ostensibly punning on the Windows brand name. So cue the mass production of freebies such as promotional t-shirts and coffee mugs: Microsoft has dropped the "Longhorn" nom de guerre that was used as a codename during the software's production. As well as being a slick, bite-size chunk of Esperanto, the new brand name is also meaningful--it apparently emphasizes selling points of the software, such as improvements in the way users can view information stored on a PC.
