Ok I installed 2 new DVD Drives one just a rom other RW+-... Well the RW+- came with the works. Nero/ Indeo DVD recorder, Indeo DVD creator/ Nero somthing else/ and something like CD copy 4 or something.. I can't recall.. I'm at work right now... The thing is it won't play DVD movies... everything else works fine.. Music and stuff even video not in DVD format. When you click play it says "failled to create overlay" or something like that. I tried playing it on Win media player... sameproblem... Then it suggests lowering the resolution and or color depth. Although I didn't think that was the prop I did it anyways. Still didn't work. I read somewhere that problem occurs when you don't have DVD decoders... Is is really possible that DVD Player software didn't come with decoders... I thats not the problem what is?

Hey its my break time... thnx for taking a look... The dvd rw came with a cd when you start it says Software/drivers and I'm sure I installed everything on that list. Shouldn't what ever driver or decoded needed to play dvd be installed along with the DVD player software? I did some research just now and it said I should check to see if all directx are enabled and check if I have full hardware accelaration. I will do that when I get there... But I didn't disable anything or lower the hardware accelaration... I just build the PC for them... And i'm positive that they wouldn't know how to get to any of those options.
Is it possible that when I DL DirectX9 it may have been currupt.
Let me know wut u think.

The direct x 9 issue is possible but I wouldn't bet too much on that one. I would look at the drivers for the video card next.

Several possibilities are:

Turn of netmeeting ( open it then close it)
Remove direct x then reinstall
Turn off webcam
Start / run dxdiag / Click display and verify all three tabs are enabled.
Display/ settings/ advanced/troubleshoot--Set it to full

hey.. sorry I took like a week to reply.. I haven't been able to go online at my job. Well It was the Video Drivers.... The first time I installed it I used the cd that came with the video card (ATI 9200se) and it wasn't perfoming. I don't know if this only happens to me or if I don't know how to click the "Next" button correctly, but... The last 5 times or so that I either reformatted a PC that had ATI card, or built a PC with and ATI card, I always use the CD to install the drivers and they never perform like they should. Like my girlfriends PC... it was laggy and when I played counter strike on it I could not get more than 25 frames per second or so.. then I install drivers from the website and works wonders.... Same thing with the pc I posted about earlier... Drivers from CD (failed to create overlay) when playing DVD... install drivers from web site get beautiful picture on the 19" LCD screen. Do you ever have problems with ATI drivers from the CD... or cd's just don't like me?

One last question.. It probably belongs in the hardware section but since we are in the subject.... Is there a difference in performance on a Video card built by ATI and another by saphire or something.

[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]

check out the one for $53.00 by saphire and the one for $93.5 by ati.

The only diff I see is core speed ati is 250 mhz and saphire 200 mhz...

I would think better performance with the higher core speed, but how measureable I dont know.
