Svchost.exe

Hi everyone,
I am using WinXP & have Zone Alarm IS 2008.For the past few days svchost.exe has been driving me & my antivirus software nuts.Svchost.exe keeps wanting to connect to the internet. The warning from zone alarm says, ”Generic Host Process for Win32 Services wants to accept connections from the internet” Zone Alarm has no advice on this matter.

I have googled svchost.exe & some are claiming it is an important part of windows while others claim it is a Trojan.I ran a scan with Zone Alarm & all is clear.I am really confused,I just don’t know what to do.I keep allowing this program to access the net because if I deny it access maybe I won’t be able to connect to the internet.
I have included my hijack this log & would really appreciate any advice.
Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:
I just tried to run another scan with ZA & now the antivirus scan wont complete scanning my entire PC, it stops scanning after 17 minutes (when it usually takes an hour to scan) but the anti spyware scan runs all the way to completion.
Could a virus stop a virus scan when the scan hits the infected file?

ANOTHER UDATE:

I ran a scan with eset NOD32 & discovered the following:
Java/Trojan Downlaoder.OpenStream.NAC Trojan (unable to clean-deleted) H:/Documents & Settings/Owner/application data/Sun/cache/6.0/21/4733b815-42faaa30 H:/Documents & Settings/Owner/application data/Sun/cache/6.0/15/3a43988f-34bf3d60 H:/Documents & Settings/Owner/application data/Sun/cache/6.0/0/b13a100-379b7b05

I then ran a scan with the a-squared scanner & uncovered: Email-worm.win32.Renouce.b. H:/ProgramFiles/WINRAR/Default.SFX (deleted)

Ewido scan = 0 infections found.

I disabled system restore & ran another scan with Zone Alarm & once again the antivirus scan failed to complete. It ran for 17 minutes then stopped & moved onto a spyware scan.I tried resetting ZA but that hasn’t helped either. “svchost.exe” is STILL trying to acess the net & the Zone Alarm antivirus won’t do a complete scan of my PC.
