Forgive me if this is the wrong area to post this question - and if it is, please let me know where to post a question like this in the future. I just got an email from a friend ,, and it got my curiosity up ........... this is what she wrote ....

,,"have you in the last few, at any time , updated your IM ,, MSN? If so, then I am the bearer of bad news .. you have picked up a trojan which will cripple you in weeks. I know ,, for I will be offline for awhile, due to the pure fact that I must re-format ,,, first using a Kill disk to strip my Hard Drive clean as new and get me to working again. This is the only way to remove these Time Dated Trojans. In the last week, it has been noted that 5 "Time Dated Trojans" have come in to play and more are on their way before Christmas."

Do you know anything about this ,, if it is true and if so,, if it is something that I should be worrying about? I updated my MSN messenger quite some time ago ,, have been in here for a Hijack check since then.
I would be interested to know your opinion
Thanks so much der

First I have heard of it Der. Don't do anything just yet till we get some authentic word from a security company. These things spread often and are called hoaxes. Nothing new but do cause quite a stir.

Hmmm... That would be deeply disturbing to read. I have recently updated my MSN Messenger to 7.0 and have yet to have problems. The only thing that really disturbed me and made me wonder anything about MSN Messenger 7.0 was its "Winks" feature. It just seems like it is very vulnerable through that stupid function microsoft made... I could see a possible virus right now or the near future sometime, but I haven't seen one yet.

If you guys ever do hear anything more about it to claim that is not a hoax please send a reply. It will be good to know about it to be aware and to get yourself prepared for anything...

Thanks Mobo and Rat ,,,
I wouldn't do anything anyway, without coming in here first ,, :tiphat: - don't know that I would know what to do anyway! :hide:
I did email my friend back tho ,, because this was not a forward she was sending through, but something that was actually happening to her computer. She said she started noticing problems in ICQ ,, then when using her Paint Shop Pro software ,, things kept changing, such as font size, etc.
I asked if she could provide a link to info on this Trojan and she said no, but said that late last year on CNET, they told people about the Trojans and that Norton had confirmed it.
So now ,, you know as much as I do ,, which doesn't seem to be much!
Have a great day to both of you! ~der~

If you chat again with your friend you could suggest they register and we can have a look at at the system.
