Infected by a WORM!

Hey,
I got a worm in my computer and can't get it out. The worm is crss.exe and smss.exe... (They are in the processes menu in my task manager). I know what they do and want them gone, but I can't find out how too get rid of them. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif[/img] Trend Micro and AVG both do not detect the virus running in the background of my computer. I do not know what else too do, because the process will not shutdown either. Here is my HiJack this log if that helps at all.

Rescan once again, check this entry then close all other opened windows, click "fix checked"

navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.


Empty the Recycle Bin


Go to Start>Run and type msconfig Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.

Check the box labeled Turn off System restore on all Drives.


Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

Then Download TDS-3 trojan scanner from http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=download

Then you will need to manually update it so follow the instructions given here
http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=update

Now open the program, pasue until its finished its mini test then click system testing / full scan

If anything is found, right click and select delete to each when the scan completes itself.

I did all you said, but the trojan or virus was not removed. Actually it is a worm, but TD3 found nothing on my computer suspicous. I still have that crss.exe on my computer and I also have that smss.exe file found on my computer too. Any other ideas on how too get rid of them?

smss.exe is a native windows file but if you have the other then yes that is trouble..However I don't see it running at all so where is the file located ?

Awww, its gone... I think... I may have deleted a good .exe file... oops... hahaha Anyway, I don't believe I have any viruses now on my computer.
