I just tried it, no dice. Thanks for trying to drag me through all the possible solutions....

Could it possibly be something in the registry?

Something to look at:

Start / run / services.msc
Scroll down to Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service. Double click and verify its on autimatic and started.

Alco check in on RPC Locator and make certain its set to manual .

Perfectly fine. I have seen no other symptoms other than the freezing when I rick click on a drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer and the freezing when I navigate to Tools>Folder Options>File Types.

I just ran the Disk Cleanup Utility although it doesn't do anything that we haven't done earlier ( deleting temporary files, etc etc.). I can't see how defragmenting the drive would help this is any way as it has been about a month since I wiped the drive and have defragged since, so I have not done that.
