Hmmm... Can state some more information about your situation? Can you still access Windows XP and log in? Or can you only access safe mode? If you can not run .exe files please read this:

Yes, you can reinstall Windows by just taking your bootable disc of your operating system and sticking it in your system and reinstalling the operating system. Please state more though of your situation. Like how did you get this way? Can you access regular Windows XP? And other useful things.

The problem is Windows XP loads up and goes to my desktop and everything but, I'm not able to use any programs. All .exe programs don't work and, the majority of the programs I had on the pc now are gone. I'm not able to do system restore or anything. I have tried the method that you spoke of but with no head way. So safe mode was the way I was able to get to the dos prompt to try to install windows that way...Thanks for your time

I want to try to figure it out before I take it to the so called experts....

Are you trying to get rid of everything on your hard drive? Can you boot from the Windows XP CD? Did you encounter a virus or anything to get you like this?

As far as I know a Virus did this to the hard drive. I would like to start over fresh and reinstall everything. The XP disk works but, I'm not able to start it because I can run any .exe files!!!! So I figured maybe I could do it manually. I basically want to start over from scratch....

You'll need to set the system bios to boot from the cdrom first. Then restart the pc with the xp disk in the drive and commence with the installation from there.

Here is a site to aid in understanding the process.Scroll down to the large blue letters " Steps to Clean Install XP" and start from there.

Post back with any questions.

MO,
It worked like a dream. I just deleted the old partition and install a new one.
I lost some files but, it's worth it to be able to do my thing now...Thanks for your time and energy....BiG G#73 :eusa_clap:
