Sounds like you need to reset the internet connection. You must have tried internet connection sharing at one time or another. Start the wizard as follows:

start
run
inetwix
lan connection
automatic proxy discovery
no to the main question

Open the networking icon in the control panel.
Click "create a new connection"
Connect to the internet
next
setup my connection manually
next
connect using a broadband connection that is always on
next
finish

Try that now..

On that one in particular right click on the connection in the networking icon.
Select properties
Highlight internet protocol tcp/ip
select properties.

Here we want to have both use the automatic settings.

Apply then reboot.
