Question about my Windows XP

I have just about a dozen things I would like to ask about but will start with this one. Hopefully I can explain it so that you will understand what is happening.
When I first have my computer on .. the first time I open a file in My Pictures, once I close it, all my icons on my desktop disappear and then slowly begin to re-load again. It only does it this first time. I can have my computer on all day, go in and out of files in My Pictures and never have it happen again. But once I have turned it off, then back on again later ,, it will do it all over again.
Granted, I do have alot of files in My Pictures, but it is not like they are overloaded or anything. I keep my files clean, loading things off the computer and onto cd's. Should this do this?? Why does this do this? Does anyone have a clue?

Sounds like a memory issue and once you have them in memory after opening them its fine. I would think burning to cd then deleting them would do the trick but maybe not either.
