Printer Preference closes browswer

Printer Preference closes browswer and wont allow printing. When I use the FIle/Print/ preferences tool, the preference window appears for half a second then closes and takes the browser with it. I use preferences to save color ink by switching to black and white.... but it acts like it is infected... WHat to do... help me stop the disappearing act!

Mobo- Yes Itried reinstalling the printer with the manufatcurers disk- It seemed to update the drivers but still did not resolve the issue... Its a Lexmark 1185...

Yes, but have you tried completely uninstalling it first then rebooting and reinstalling?

Is your Lexmark set as default? It could be set to the microsoft fax. Also when you reinstalled, did you have the printer hooked up and on or unpluged?
I have found that Lexmarks are very snobish and like to have the drivers installed before the hardware.

I did uninstall the Lexmark software - rebooted and re installed using the Lexmark CD- I found it did not allow me to do the setup unless the printer was connected. After the setup I rebooted ( for the sheer sake of it)- alas no change.

I was however having issues with starting my computer- when it was starting up it stagnated at the windows page ( the black screen) and would not go further. I then restarted in safe mode and ran Adaware- It identified some cookies but did not fix the problem- my computer would not start. I then chose a previous starting point and was allowed to start the computer. I then ran antivirus scan ( nothing found) also ran adaware and spybot S&D ( nothing)... hmmmm could both issues be connected?

Does the printer print at this tiime ?

Printer does work- just when I try to get to the details and try to change it to grey scale it shuts down- when I just press the print button it works. Just in color and I cant change the preferences.
