Post After a reformat.. How do you "load the drivers that are in yellow(Question marks) "

Well recently, i decided it is time to reformat. I asked this guy from a site if he can sort of walk me through it. I'll post what he said.
Quote:
you need to load up all the drivers for all the yellow question marks
He said that after i completed the reformat. But then he said he had to go. How do i load all the drivers up after i reformatted? I know i go to device manager from my control panel. Then what? I right click or something? o.O lol

And heres a chat log of what we had. It could answer some questions that some people might have with reformatting lol.

Quote:
Shredder says:
whats up
Jester says:
i want to reformat my pc because i havent reformated it for 4 years. and i dont know what to do
Jester says:
i know i need to insert windows xp disc
Jester says:
but do i need to install drivers for me to get internet
Jester says:
can i just come back after i followed the steps to u . and u tell me what i need lol t.t
Shredder says:
1...Put the disk in the rom..and reboot
Shredder says:
2..on reboot hit the key to go into bios
Shredder says:
3...Make sure you go to boot device and set it to cd rom as primary
Shredder says:
4...Save and exit out of bios
Shredder says:
5...When it boots back up it will boot to the windows cd..and hit any key to continue
Shredder says:
6..Follow directions..except license..F8..etc..it will load some default drivers..at first..after the default drivers are installed it will ask you to install windows
Shredder says:
7..You will see the screen with drive C on it as the default drive to install windows..
Shredder says:
8..Make sure you delete the partion and recreate it..
Shredder says:
D>>Delete pation
Shredder says:
C>>Create partion
Shredder says:
Partion*
Shredder says:
Format drive in NTFS format
Shredder says:
Thats it...After you get back on windows do all updates first before you install anything else..ALL WINDOWS UPDATES SHOULD BE DONE FIRSTThen install video..sound drives..and anything else you want
Shredder says:
Drivers*
Jester says:
wow its that easy
Jester says:

Jester says:
what will i do with my internet
Jester says:
i just plug in my things and connect to internet
Jester says:
i dont need to install any network drivers
Jester says:
for ports or something lol
Shredder says:
what kind of computer is it
Jester says:
Windows XP
Jester says:
Dell
Jester says:
Its the black version
Jester says:
reason i say black is cause they advertised it in commercials ect.
Shredder says:
do you have the dell cd it came with
Jester says:
yea
Shredder says:
does it have a windows XP disk
Jester says:
ya
Shredder says:
use the windows XP disk first and do what i said above
Jester says:

Shredder says:
all the other drivers for sound and video is on the dell disk
Jester says:
the only thing i "customized" for my pc is
Jester says:
Extra ram
Jester says:
will i need to install anything for that for the pc to run properly
Shredder says:
one thing..if its a dell you can put all the drivers in after it boots up the first time..you dont have to do the updates first
Shredder says:
dell has it setup that way
Jester says:
is the drivers in the service packs
Shredder says:
the network drivers for the internet connection r on the dell disk
Jester says:
ok
Shredder says:
you know about device manager in control panel
Jester says:
a little why
Shredder says:
after you install windows go into device manager..you will see all the devices that needs drivers..they will be a yellow?
Shredder says:
?
Jester says:
hmm
Jester says:
i cant find device manager under my control pannel settings
Shredder says:
you can put the dell disk in double click the question mark go to update driver and see if it finds it on the cd rom with the dell disk in it
Shredder says:
control panel...system...device manager
Jester says:
ll
Jester says:

Jester says:
i see it
Jester says:
so what devices wont b e installed that are under the device manager tab
Shredder says:
you can mark down all the devices in there so you know what you have
Shredder says:
or take a desktop SS and say it to a floppy
Shredder says:
like network adapters
Jester says:
o i get it
Jester says:
then when i format. i look what i missin
Jester says:
what will i do when i see that im missing some stuff
Jester says:
like what if im mising internet stuff and idk what to do
Jester says:
idk any1 that smart with computers where i live
Jester says:
i will be screwed lol
Shredder says:
it will all be in there..no matter what..maybe with a different name..or in yellow with a question mark next to it
Shredder says:
what ever is in there runs your computer
Shredder says:
the dell disk has everything on it
Jester says:
ok cool
Jester says:
will it even notice my ram that iv changed
Jester says:
because i added 1gb to it
Jester says:
and the pc people had to do something to it
Jester says:
in the bios or cmd or w.e. the black screen thing is lol
Shredder says:
if you still have the invoice from dell it will tell you everything that the computer came with
Jester says:
no i mean like. Will i need to install my ram drivers because the ram that i have didnt come with dell.
Jester says:
i added it on my own.
Jester says:
do you know what im saying
Shredder says:
yes..no
Shredder says:
that all will be installed
Shredder says:
windows will do that
Jester says:
ok
Shredder says:
device manager is the ticket
Jester says:
so your steps have like everything i need to know
Jester says:
cause i dont think there is going back once i did this lol
Shredder says:
you need to load up all the drivers for all the yellow question marks
Jester says:
And how would i do that
Jester says:
^ last question
Shredder says:
come on ts
Shredder says:
i have to piss first
Jester says:
i dont have any sound
Jester says:
my headphones cracked
Shredder says:
hold up
Jester says:
im getting new ones by tuesday.

Jester, jester, jester..Why, Why, Why????

You could have asked here and I would have suggested our free driver backup utility to back all your driver up to **** or wherever then this could/ would be all avoided.

Having said that..What drivers are missing?

Sounds good. So after i would reformat my pc. i would put my cd( the driver back up) and then put the location on my // driver or what ever my cd thing is in :P. and it will look for the files that i need for that 1 driver out of all the files it has? Do you know what im saying? If this is correct then i be so happy lol. Answer the question i just stated about the driver back up load thing lol. Then i will ask a little more questions .

Yep. just backup all the drivers with the utility. Then burn the folder it creates with all the drivers in it to a disk. Reformat then see whatever drivers are needed and insert the cdrom. The direction on the utiloity page are self explanatory from there.

ok cool. So do you think i will be alright? If i follow what shreddar told me? (his steps) . Will it log me on to desktop? Like, i wont have to go to the bios thing and enter me some account names/settings or anything.. it should bring me my desktop and from there i load the drivers that i need. then i can download my programs/play my games?
