How do I restore my registry???

I just recently removed the entry of a malicious program, "ntos.exe". from my registry. Since then I have not been able to completely logon onto my PC. The wallpaper shows up but there are no icons, no taskbar. etc. Can anyone assist me with restoring my registry. I am able to use the command prompt in the Recovery Console, I just need to know what commands I need to enter to restore my registry. I am running Windows 2K. Thanks.

If you do then follow this sequence:
  1. Boot your computer from the Windows 2000 CD.
  2. When the Windows Installer displays its opening screen, press r to repair your current installation.
  3. The Installer will ask for your Emergency Repair Disk. Once you have inserted the disk, the Installer will prompt you through the repair process

I do not have the ERD, but I have another question. Can I create one on a working Windows 2000 PC and use it on the one I'm trying to repair?

I just read an article saying that you can actually create an ERD through the Recovery Console. Doesn't this mean I can still create an ERD even though I can't logon?

Do you have Explorer.exe on your automatic statup list?? (Not the startup folder the other one you get to by "Run" can't remember the name) Try using Win. task manager, press "new task" type Explorer.exe if you've changed things with Explorer like what it says on the start menu make sure that the Regstry has Explorer.exe at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENT VERSION\WINLOGON in winlogon there is a key called "Shell" Make sure it has Explorer.exe for it if not right click it and click modify and change it.
