Dial up error 33

Windows XP.

At start up I receive Dial Up Error 33.

My modem/sound card is inoperable. Also, I am unable to find the modem in the Device Manager.

Are you sure it is error 33? Please double check again.

I think that it is a driver issue with my modem/sound card which is an integral part of the mother board in the HP ze5170.

Motherboards do no come with an integrated modem, these are adapter cards that need installed in a pci slot. You may have a card installed in one of your pci slots .
You also are saying "modem/sound card " which I think you are getting confused about. You can have on board sound, this is an integrated part on the motherboard. But they are 2 different pieces of hardware.

I have not found any errors on a 33 error code, only on 3-digit modem error codes, hence the question in my first reply.

So whats the error at boot and do you have sound?

I have no sound and no dial-up.

This HP (ze5170) has the modem and soundcard as an integral part of the motherboard. I know that it is odd.

This dial up "error=33" started occurring after an acquaintance made attempts at testing the modem and soundcard. This error caused my computer to lockup several times so I un-installed the modem and sound driver.

Now, since I un-installed those drivers, there is no error at boot. But, of course, no sound and no modem. I reinstalled and had the same issue. Then, un-installed again.

Others seem to be have similar difficulties with this particular HP. However, the previous attempts at repair have compounded the problem with "error=33".

Are you installing the drivers from their website or from within the system?

Error code 33's are usually attributed to drivers. It may be wise to get chipset drivers for the board.

The model number of my HP ze5170 is F4680H.

I have re-installed the drivers for the "hp omnibook XE4400-KD series Driver Package for Window XP" found at [Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...]
for the sound device and the modem. Specifically, Conexant AC-Link Audio driver v6.13.10.8080 and Conexant 56k ACLink Modem driver v5.03.09.

Incidentally, I recently (subsequent to the above) replaced the non-functioning CD ROM with "F4640-60934 CD-ROM drive - 24X-max speed" and repaired the broken AC jack on the motherboard.

All is well but for no sound, no modem.
