I was installing windows xp pro on my girlfriends computer. But CD was scratched up and i couldn't finish installation. So I went and purchased a new copy but I bought the copy that already comes with SP2. I could not continue the installation with this new copy. So I tried to start over, but I got like an error message when loading up the files before I'm even asked to create partition. Error either extracting some package or loading some dll file. I deleted old partition using a win98 start up disk but still get same error when trying new install. I thought maybe the cd is messed up but tried on another pc and it started up fine. Any thoughts. TY

I would use Maxtor's powermax to write zeroes to the drive which essentially brings it back to manufacturer specs. Then retry..http://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/m...hp?p_faqid=126

Ok I'm going to try PowerMax tonight... Hope that will solve it cuz we need that PC for School. I'll let you know if it worked tomorrow.
