Download the file (
[Only Registered and Activated Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register...] )from dell. then execute it to create a set of floppies. they should get the cdrom functioning so we can use the setup command .

Follow the instructions to create a set of floppy diskettes, and then use the diskettes to complete the installation.</span>

1. Insert the Windows 98 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
2.Insert your setup boot floppy disk into the floppy drive.
3.Reboot your computer :icon_thumb:
4.At the MS-DOSĀ® prompt, type the following commands and press the <Enter> key after each command:
x: (where x indicates the letter of your CD-ROM drive)
cd win98
setup
A prompt to start Scandisk appears.
5.Press the <Enter> key.
6.When Scandisk has finished checking the hard drive, press the <x> key.
The Welcome to Windows 98 Setup window appears.
7.Press the <Enter> key.
The Microsoft Windows 98 Setup Wizard window appears.
8.Verify that c:\windows (Recommended) is selected as the default directory, and then click Next to install the Windows files.
The setup program prepares the Windows directory and checks for available disk space.
The Setup Options window appears
9.Click the appropriate option for your computer, and then click Next.
