For those of you who are still running windows 98 surely know how long it takes to do hard drive defrag. Its quite annoying at the amount of time. What can you do...?

Here is a tip that has been tried, tested and sure to provide a means to keep your sanity.

First open windows explorer and navigate to C:\Windows
Find your existing "defrag.exe" file
Right click and rename to defrag.old
then download the attachment here, unzip it to the C\windows directory or copy and paste it there.

Thats it now try a defrag and see the difference.

How Often Should I Defrag?

Good question. The answer is: more often than you might think. For regular maintenance, run defrag at least every 40 hours of computer work time. Some like to defrag every day or so, especially if a lot of multitasking has been done. The first time you go through the procedures on this page, it may take a while to run. From then on, if you defrag regularly, you'll find it is a very quick process, especially if you use the winme_defrag program.

It's a good practice to defrag after installing software, updating Windows or even uninstalling software. If you keep a regular maintenance program, it is very quick and you'll find your system operating much faster and with less errors.
